What was a rustic farm is now a characterful 700-acre estate
Our ever-growing Hertfordshire hotel is home to rural rooms, farm-to-fork restaurants, and plenty of meeting places for those all-important celebrations.
Originally a dairy farm, Tewinbury has been home to the Williams family since 1931, when they moved in with their herd of 50 cows. And with a history going back this far, you can imagine how many stories we have to tell. In 1980, we sold the dairy herd to purchase some of the surrounding farmland and opened a farm shop to sell local produce, but we decided to try something else out; a bit of an experiment if you will. We advertised four rooms in the family home as guest rooms for visitors. And, you guessed it - this is when Tewinbury was born.
The grounds are still farmed and owned by members of our family, and we sure are proud of our farming roots. As demand grew, we continued to renovate the hotel and made sure to retain plenty of original farm features throughout. Today, Tewinbury is a much-loved meeting place. From our restaurants to our rooms and everything in between, this is where everyone can come together and have a good time.
Who knows what we'll do next? Whether it's creating more space for celebrations, working on a spa, or cooking up foodie favourites in the new bakery, we're all-embracing and we're always keen to expand our home. One thing's for sure though: sustainability is a biggie to us. We've always been conscious of our environmental impact, but we're working out our current footprint and our Green Policy is in place to improve this. So no matter what exciting decision we make at Tewinbury, we'll ensure it's a sustainable one.
Whatever we do, we do it sustainably. We want to make a positive impression on the land we share, the River Mimram and the wildlife - after all, they are our neighbours.
We want every guest to feel they belong here. We welcome with open arms and genuinely care about creating a happy space for everyone that visits.
With plenty of rooms, restaurants and event spaces, there's always something going on here - but that's all part of the fun. Bringing things, people, and experiences together is what we do.
We take pride in all we do together as a family-run business. Our founders, Ivor and Vaughan Williams, passed the business to the new generation: Salem and Lauren Retibi (General Manager and Sales & Marketing Director), Sam Williams (Creative Director), Jack Williams (Chef De Partie), and Tom Williams (Director). Of course, we’d be nothing without the rest of our team, who are seen as extended members of our family.
