About Tewin Bury Farm Hotel: History

The Williams family has farmed Tewin Bury, a 130-acre farm and home to 50 dairy cows, since 1932.
When the neighbouring farm came up for sale in 1980, the Williams’ sold their cows and purchased the additional land to move into a new direction. A Farm Shop was opened to sell their potatoes and other local produce and as an experiment, the family decided to offer four rooms in the Farm House as guest rooms for visitors. When these rooms proved to be very popular, they decided to keep renovating and Tewin Bury Farm Hotel was born.
The need for an on site restaurant became very necessary, so the chicken shed was renovated and turned into the now locally very well known Tewin Bury Restaurant. When the Restaurant was launched, further adjoining farm buildings were converted into further bedrooms, banqueting and conference facilities.
The original 17th century Tythe Barn set on the river Mimram, featuring its original oak beams provides an attractive year round setting for Weddings (one of Hertfordshire’s most popular venues) and Conferences.
The Williams’ family have managed to develop Tewin Bury Farm into a very substantial and successful thriving business, comprising a 490-acre farm, a 30-bedroom country house hotel, the Tewin Bury Restaurant, 9 function/conference rooms including our new Meadow Marquee that can accommodate up to 400 delegates for a meeting and a Carriage Company with several cars.
Despite the success of the Hotel enterprise, the farm remains very important in the long-term family plans. Therefore the working farm is kept close to the Hotel……. after all, seeing a tractor drive across the yard is part of what our customers would expect!
In the future, the Williams’ plan to continue the steady growth and development of Tewin Bury Farm, through their ethos of dedication, hard work and commitment.
