20 Things We Do To Help The Environment

1. Throw in the towel

We encourage guests to minimise washing of towels and bed linen.

2. Bright idea

All hotel lighting, where safe to do so, has been replaced with low energy light bulbs. Light controlled key cards have also been installed in newly refurbished bedrooms.

3. Chill out

The entire hotel heating is on a seasonal and daily timer system and the heating is switched off when bedrooms are not in use.

4. Unplugged

We operate a 'switch it off' policy for all electrical items not in use.

5. ACDC

We source energy efficient products whenever we upgrade or refurbish. For example, all air conditioning units are part of the ECA scheme which is managed by the Carbon Trust, on behalf of the Government.

6. Think before you print

We have reduced our reliance on printed communications between our internal and external customers.

7. Read all about it

We recycle all paper waste in partnership with Cawley's.

8. Glass chance

We recycle all glass and plastic bottles in partnership with Green Star Ltd.

9. Load of old rubbish

All biodegradable kitchen waste is collected by Cawley's for use in the AD process to produce energy for the national grid.

10. Grease is the word

All our kitchen oil is collected by a local supplier for recycling.

11. Green fingers

All garden waste is composted and we operate a policy of replenishing trees and shrubs.

12. Keeping it local

We source from local suppliers wherever practically possible.

13. Fair Trade

We use Fair Trade beverages in our restaurant and events catering department.

14. Herb it here

We grow a selection of herbs which supply our kitchen and bars.

15. A bit fishy

The hotel is supplied with fresh Trout from its own lakes located in the grounds.

16. Wet and wild

Water for our Trout farm comes from its own reservoir.

17. Conservation

We host a number of programmes to promote the conservation of our natural inhabitants, including maintaining a suitable environment for wild orchids to grow, re-homing bees, and providing safe wetlands for the local bird life to flourish. See our conservation section for more details.

18. Fill me up

We provide a free daily shuttle bus to take guests to and from the local business park. This helps the environment by reducing carbon emissions and minimising traffic levels and noise on local roads.

19. On your bike

Guests are encouraged to leave their cars behind and explore the local countryside on hotel bikes which are available to use free of charge.

20. Education is the key

To ensure our staff are fully aware of our environmental protection programme we hold regular briefing meetings and undertake regular internal audits to measure commitment and progress. We also set targets for our recycling activities and publish the results.
